Trekking The Commercial Trail

TTCT is very specific to our foundation and the building blocks we create here. It involves developing your very specific and personal style within the industry and how to excavate that in the most nurturing way possible.

We’ll cover audition techniques, how to make words that are not your own ‘conversation’ and switch off that ‘announcer voice’, plus have plenty of “on-mic” experience with tailored feedback and notes in the span of (three 2-hour classes OR one 6-hour class - dependent on class size, so everyone gets ample time for notes and redirects).

Trekking The Advanced Commercial Trail

Time to go deeper into the Commercial Trail!

We’ve covered the basics with Level 1 and now it’s time to challenge ourselves even further. Your counselors will go into more advanced techniques to help guide you on how to garner and tackle those auditions and what is expected with the business of voice acting.

Canyon Crossing

** Previously named The Danger Room

** This is our most repeated course! So far, 10 Scouts have taken this offering more than once. It’s a testament to the work you keep uncovering in this very unique class!

If you’ve been staring down at that chasm wondering how to bridge the gap between your Commercial and Character work – look no further! 

This is the class where you learn how to not just give a good read, but how to perform the character. This is where you find your point of view, and learn how to use it as your secret weapon to expertly navigate any situation that comes your way in the VO booth. 

We’ll be using the tools of improvisation and script analysis to create characters in a specific and captivating way. We have found that the material covered in this course plays an integral role in our voiceover success - commercials, video games, and animation primarily.

The goal of this 3-week course is to build confidence, take direction like a boss, level-up your VO arsenal and roll with whatever curveballs this industry has to throw at you. Let’s get you out of your head, so you’ll stop judging yourself and expand your personal boundaries as a performer.

Traversing Towards Demo Land

When you’re ready to get traversing - let Scott Holst be your guide. Demos are not a ‘one size fits all’ deal. They need to be competitive and unique to garner the attention of prospective agents and clients. He’ll walk you through the necessary steps to prepare you for recording day in this four-week course.

Have no fear, by virtue of taking this class does not mean that you are ready to make a demo as soon as class wraps. This is a precursor. You’re working towards your demo while still learning and honing your skills. We’ll be foraging for copy, lots of it - so be ready to read quite a bit more than in previous courses. 

This offering is one of our favorites as it has a lot of a-ha and lightbulb moments through our thorough exploration and fine-tuning of what each of us brings to the VO table. Plus, you’ll leave with a healthy file of demo-ready copy for you to take to your demo session!

Ground Stakes

Anchor in Video Game reads by working your imagination muscles to create grounded work.

A note we often make to actors or a common request we see in auditions is to BE GROUNDED. What does that even mean? What does a grounded read vs. a non grounded read look or feel like? To have a career in the AAA gaming space: We have to have ‘grounded’ on lock! We’re going to kill any confusion by working with tone to make your audition and takes stand out and be consistent, thus being trustworthy to a hiring professional.

Our Guest Counselor, Casting Director and Voice Director Hari Leigh (Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Wylde Flowers), will be taking us through what Developers and Casting Directors are looking for in the auditions they receive, specifically for AAA games.

Head’s up: there will be some writing elements to tap into your imagination as an actor. Don’t let that dissuade you, as you’ll find that it aligns parallel with your actor brain. This class will meet you where you are, so all levels are welcome.

Reaching The Summit

Scaling Mt. Anime

What is Anime? What does it look like in 2023? How can we differentiate our other auditions from this one? How does one handle the “beeps” and the technical aspect of this medium? 

So many good questions and we’ve got your answers! Join our newest counselor to our growing Camp, Brent Mukai, as he leads us in Scaling Mt. Anime! Brent has been in over FIFTY anime titles and has won the Society of Voice Arts Award for Outstanding Anime Character a handful of times. So, yeah, he knows his shtuff.

In this 3 week class, you’ll learn anime foundations, along with specific audition techniques and ways to be a cut above the rest. Plus, we’ll end with a mock director’s session where we’ll bring in an engineer to have real-world experience on dubbing for anime. Building Sand Castles

Spelunking

Let’s go Spelunking into goof-town! In this next challenge, we’ll be working on our comedy skills and bringing in heart + vulnerability to have our 2-D characters come to life! Free Diving

Yeah it’s scary diving into the great unknown but not if you’re well equipped and ready for adventure!

This incredibly specific course dials into the heart of YOU. We’ll be asking you to create characters that can live in your arsenal for years to come. We’ll laser-focus into 6-10 signature reads, explore if you’re a versatile or utility actor - or both!

This course is more technical and holds a potent magnifying glass but you’ll be more than ready for the task. This is the deep blue where the big dawgs play, so LFG!

In this 3-week structure, we’ll introduce : the Spine of the Actor- what you’ll need as a VA to bring even more value to your work as a serious competitor. Navigating Narration

What makes a great Narrator? A VO artist who knows how to navigate the script or story and deliver the messages so the audience/listener understands it clearly. It takes more than just a pretty voice; it takes artistry and acting chops to be able to break down and analyze a script with specificity and depth.

Narration includes the voice you hear on a documentary, TV show, video on website, conferences, amusement parks, apps, audiobooks, award shows, and so many others!

Let Narration Royalty, Robert Clotworthy, guide us through this 3-week Navigation path. He is one of the most sought after narrators on TV, lending his voice to a myriad of projects such as Empire of Dreams: The Making of the Star Wars Trilogy, Ancient Aliens– for which he won a SOVAS for best VO –  and Curse of Oak Island (on its 9th season!).

Audio Description Archery

This kind of work not only helps us acquire consistent work once we’ve got our foot in the door, but it also helps our visually impaired friends enjoy the same entertainment that we do

Elliot Schiff has made the visual verbal for many years, working on over 1000 hours of AD with buzzy titles such as “The White Lotus”, “Succession”, and many over series and films.

In this 3 week class, you’ll learn the mechanics of AD, get accustomed to the software this industry is currently using, how to acquire work in this field, and in the last class, put your tools to the test with a surprise guest!

Career Zipline

This is for the Scouts who have been training and maybe even booking here and there, Scouts who have demo or are very close to crafting one, and have a home recording setup of some kind.

Emeri Chase constantly hears this question from their private coaching clients: ”I’ve done the classes, I have the demo, what do I do now??”

On The Grid: Website Building For Voice Actors

A great campsite is no fun if you can’t find it! All the best hiking spots are on Google Maps, and you should be too (on Google, that is. Don’t put your address on Google Maps kids). A website is an essential tool for the modern voice actor.

This class will cover how to know if you are ready for a website, developing your personal branding, what you should have on your website and where it should go, the basics of SEO, and an overview of the different site building platforms available.

Kid’s Campground

The Kid's Campground is an exciting introduction to voiceover for ages 5-17 (structured in Elementary, Middle, and High school age groups). In this four week course, we cover basics in week one and continue to expand on commercials, video games, and cartoons/animation in the following weeks. This is a space where we celebrate uniqueness, create a place for play without judgements and support kids and young adults to come as they are - and ready to explore!
